Bollywood actress Kiara Advani is facing renewed criticism after an old interview clip resurfaced online, in which she appeared to question India’s beef ban and raised concerns about personal freedom and democracy.
The clip, originally recorded in 2015, recently went viral on social media, sparking outrage among netizens who accused the actress of disrespecting Indian cultural and religious values.
What Did Kiara Advani Say About the Beef Ban?
In the resurfaced interview, Kiara Advani expressed her disappointment over restrictions imposed in the country, stating that such bans undermine democratic principles.
“It’s sad. I mean, first it was beef. So, no one knows what’s next,” she said.
“I think it’s taking away the meaning of democracy. We are kind of losing our freedom.”
She further added that freedom meant being allowed to make personal choices while accepting responsibility for them, urging citizens to use their freedom wisely.
India’s beef ban exists because cows are considered sacred in Hinduism, and the issue has long remained politically and culturally sensitive.
Social Media Backlash Intensifies
Following the clip’s circulation, Kiara Advani was heavily criticized online. Many users accused her of promoting Western values and being disconnected from Indian traditions.
One social media user wrote:
“Please don’t make these paid celebrities your idols. They will sell anything for money.”
Another commented:
“They support vulgarity, drugs, alcohol, and beef. One should avoid even talking about such people.”
The backlash reflects a broader trend where celebrities’ past statements are frequently revisited and scrutinized in the age of viral social media.
Ranbir Kapoor Also Faced Similar Criticism
Kiara Advani is not the only Bollywood star to face backlash over beef-related comments. Actor Ranbir Kapoor was previously criticized after an old interview surfaced in which he openly admitted to enjoying beef.
The controversy intensified after he was confirmed to play Lord Rama in filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana project, with critics questioning the appropriateness of his dietary preferences for the role.
Kiara Advani’s Recent Work and Upcoming Projects
On the professional front, Kiara Advani was last seen in War 2 (2025), which reportedly underperformed at the box office. She has also been linked to reports suggesting she exited Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3.
The actress is currently filming Toxic, a Kannada-English bilingual film. She remains widely known for her performances in popular films such as Good Newwz (2019) and Kabir Singh (2019).
