Strict religion and sex work can surprisingly go hand in hand… on some very unexpected levels. Kit Barrus, a 27-year-old ex-Mormon from Southern California, USA, has found unexpected empowerment and freedom as a successful adult content creator after leaving her conservative religious upbringing behind.
In an exclusive interview, the mathematics graduate revealed the surprising lesson she carried from Mormonism into her new life. “I was always very much a black sheep,” Kit exclusively told the Daily Star.
She continued: “I read a ton. Like any book I could get my hands on. I just lived in these little fantasy lands and I was like, ‘Man, I want a life where I’m important’, and in the Mormon church, the most important thing you can do as a woman is have as many children as possible.
Kit was born into a Mormon family. Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Christian religious movement founded in the United States in the early 19th century.
They are known for their distinctive beliefs, including additional scriptures like the Book of Mormon, and for following strict codes of conduct regarding family, sexuality, and lifestyle. “But I just really felt like I had more,” Kit said.
“I felt like I had a lot more to give.” Kit left the church at 19, and several years later, began her career on a popular adult content creating platform while studying psychology and mathematics at university.
Kit has not only gone against her religion’s expectations, but she has also challenged the stereotypes of adult content creators. The model, who counts nearly 60,000 followers on Instagram and almost 150,000 on TikTok, sports a very unique look.
As opposed to most popular adult content creators, Kit rocks a colourful haircut à la Pink. She also flaunts an impressively strong body, which she has sculpted through lifting heavy weights at the gym.
“Mormons are very, very good at being themselves regardless of what’s happening around them,” Kit revealed. She further explained: “Mormons don’t drink.
“They go into all these settings, they still don’t drink, they hold fast. They say hold fast to the iron rod.”
« Hold fast to the iron rod » is a significant metaphor, primarily from the Book of Mormon, meaning to cling tightly to the word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s about consistent and active engagement with these spiritual anchors, not just casual acknowledgment, to stay on the path back to God.
It is also a lesson Kit has learnt and preserved, even after having left the Church. She admitted: “It means to hold fast to your beliefs.
“And I actually do think there’s something to that. You ignore the noise.
“Hold fast to the iron rod. Get to where you want to get.
“My iron rod just happens to be a rod.” Kit has displayed pride in her current job, as she unapologetically described her favourite content to make, which is too explicit to include in this article.
She has, however, expressed her amusement and surprised at the numerous demands for her to sell her farts.
