A wave of shock has swept through the community of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Kadoma, Zimbabwe, after a private video — clearly intended for the pastor — was accidentally shared in the church’s official “Worship” WhatsApp group by his wife.
According to several congregation members contacted this Thursday, the video — explicitly intimate in nature — was never meant to be seen by the roughly 200 members of the group. The mistake reportedly happened during a simple message forward: instead of sending the file to her husband in a private chat, the pastor’s wife accidentally posted it in the main group.
“We all saw the notification pop up, then the video… For a few minutes, it was total shock,” an anonymous member testified. “The admins reacted very quickly: the video was deleted and a message was immediately sent asking everyone to delete it and, above all, not to forward it.”
Despite this swift response, the damage was done: within minutes, the video had already been forwarded to other WhatsApp groups, including some outside the AFM Kadoma community, sparking heated discussions on local social media.
Faced with the situation, church leaders called on members to show compassion and respect the pastoral couple’s privacy. “We ask everyone to display Christian maturity, to pray for the pastor’s family, and not to spread this human error any further,” one of the church elders declared in a voice message broadcast in the group.
This embarrassing incident has also sparked broader reflection within the community about the dangers of instant messaging apps. Several members stressed the importance of double-checking the recipient before sending any sensitive content, especially in groups with hundreds of people.
“One second of inattention can destroy a reputation in a few clicks,” a sister in the church confided. “It reminds all of us that even in our worship groups, digital caution is essential.”
At this time, neither the pastor nor his wife has made a public statement. The AFM Kadoma community, known for its fervor and unity, hopes to turn this difficult page quickly by focusing on forgiveness and restoration.
