Eleven schoolchildren have been killed and five injured in a horror crash between a private scholar transport vehicle and a truck.
The crash occurred on Monday morning in the south of Gauteng.
Speaking on the sidelines of a back-to-school event in Eldorado Park, Education MEC Matome Chiloane said the vehicle was ferrying pupils to the Vereeniging/Vanderbijlpark area at the time.
“The information I have is that the taxi collided with a truck … We lost 11 learners and five are en route to hospital, if they have not arrived yet,” said Chiloane, who was heading to the scene.
“We are rushing there,” he added.
