A woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her three children in Mlolongo, Machakos county.
The suspect was arrested by police officers from Mlolongo Police Station on Wednesday.
Athi River East Subcounty police commander Anderson Mbae said she was arrested along police road within the Mlolongo Township.
Mbae said the suspect has been held at the same police station pending further investigation and autopsy on the dead bodies to determine the cause of deaths.
The woman is said to have fled after poisoning her three children at Mlolongo phase 3 estate in the outskirts of Mlolongo Township.
Mbae said the incident happened at an unknown time in Mlolongo Phase Three estate located in the outskirts of Mlolongo Township on Sunday night.
Mbae said the matter was reported to the Mlolongo police station as a murder incident report hours after it occurred on Monday.
« It was reported to the police station by the caretaker of the rental house in which the woman lived that she received a text message from Linet Murila (suspect) directing her to go and see a wonder inside her house as she had already fled. She obviously knew there was an ugly incident, » Mbae told the Star by phone on Monday.
Police responded by visiting the scene and found the suspect’s three children lying dead inside the house with foam emanating from their mouths.
The police boss said the deceased children included twin sisters aged one year who were found lying dead on a bed and a four-year-old boy who was lying on a baby cot.
« It’s suspected that the suspect poisoned them using a mixture of Vim detergent , » Mbae said.
Police documented the scene and collected samples before removing the bodies to the city mortuary awaiting autopsy.
The incident is pending under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives attached to the Mlolongo police station.
