A shocking leaked video showing 33-year-old Zvikomborero Maria Makedenge engaging in sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old schoolboy has sparked nationwide outrage in Zimbabwe and across social media platforms.
The explicit footage, first shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram channels, clearly depicts Makedenge – said to be a Zimbabwean national living and working in the United States – having unprotected sex with the minor in a doggy-style position inside a bedroom in Glen View, Harare.
According to court documents seen by local media, Makedenge is the girlfriend of a tenant who rents a room at the victim’s family home. On August 2, 2025, she allegedly entered the teenager’s bedroom and forced herself on him despite his will.
Prosecutors say she promised to take the boy to America, where she is based, in exchange for his silence. The teenager initially kept quiet, but later confided in his older sister, who immediately informed their mother. A police report was filed the same week, leading to Makedenge’s swift arrest upon her return to Zimbabwe.

The case has drawn extra attention because Zimbabwe raised the age of sexual consent from 16 to 18 earlier in 2025. Makedenge now faces statutory rape charges carrying severe penalties under the new law.
Neither Makedenge nor the minor have made any public statements since the video surfaced. The matter remains under active police investigation while the accused awaits trial.
Online reactions have been fierce, with thousands condemning the act and calling her a “sexual predator.” Hashtags related to the case continue trending across southern Africa.
The trial is expected to begin in the coming weeks at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.
