Suspected gang s3xual assault of a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Kazan

In Kazan (Tatarstan), a case involving teenagers has sparked widespread outrage after videos from a private party began circulating in mid-August 2026. According to reports from Russian media and the Safe Internet League, a girl aged 13 to 15 (exact age still to be confirmed) was filmed engaging in sexual acts with several boys aged 13 to 16.

What is known about the events

The incident allegedly took place on the night of 15–16 July 2026 in a rented cottage on the outskirts of Kazan. According to accounts shared with Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the Safe Internet League, the girl met the group through TikTok and went to the location to shoot joint videos. After the adults (the parents of the cottage’s tenant) left, the teenagers began drinking alcohol. According to the version reported by multiple sources, the girl was then locked in rooms with the boys, forced into sexual relations, and filmed despite her requests not to be recorded. The videos were later shared on social media and messaging apps.

Authorities have identified all participants. A procedural check was opened by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan. As of 20–21 August 2026, the case is being investigated under Articles 137 (violation of privacy) and 242.2 (use of a minor for the production of pornographic materials) of the Russian Criminal Code. Investigators have not yet classified the events as a gang sexual assault, while continuing to establish all the circumstances.

Apology videos from some participants have circulated. One teenager claimed he did not take part in the sexual acts but admitted to other actions. Rumours that the girl is pregnant and that her parents have rejected her (she is currently living with her grandmother, with a possible placement in a children’s home) are circulating online, but these have not been officially confirmed. The girl is facing significant online harassment, including the creation of fake accounts in her name.

Reactions and legal aspects

Ekaterina Mizulina appealed to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia for a thorough investigation. She noted that the girl clearly appears underage and frightened in the footage, and urged people not to share the videos, which potentially constitute child pornography (Article 242.1 of the Criminal Code).

Under Russian law, criminal liability for sexual assault begins at age 14. If the events were reclassified as the gang sexual assault of a minor under 16, the perpetrators could face 8 to 15 years in prison, according to legal experts. At present, this is not the qualification being pursued by investigators.

The participants, students from nearby schools in Kazan districts, have often downplayed the events in their exchanges, claiming mutual consent. Authorities are working with psychologists and child protection services to support the girl.

Context and caution

This case is part of a series of high-profile sexual assault cases involving minors in Russia, frequently linked to meetings arranged through social media. Local media have highlighted the role of platforms such as TikTok and Telegram in the rapid spread of illegal content and the subsequent harassment.

It should be stressed that the investigation is ongoing. Available information is based largely on accounts relayed by organisations and media, as well as the videos themselves. Final conclusions rest with the judicial authorities. Sharing these videos is illegal and subject to criminal penalties.
