The Ghana Education Service has suspended the salary of a teacher from Bole Senior High School after he was accused of engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female student inside the school’s science laboratory.
According to the Ghana Education Service, the teacher has gone into hiding and has not returned to work since the matter came to public attention. The Service says his continued absence has led to further administrative action against him.
GES has also referred the case to the Ghana Police Service and has called on law enforcement authorities to locate and arrest the teacher for a full investigation into the allegations.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, July 1, GES Director-General Professor Ernest Kofi Davis said the teacher would face both criminal prosecution and internal disciplinary sanctions if he is apprehended.
Professor Davis explained that the teacher was first interdicted after the allegations emerged. However, his salary was later suspended when he failed to report back to work.
The Director-General stressed that the Ghana Education Service remains committed to protecting students and ensuring discipline within schools across the country.
He added that if the allegations are proven, GES will apply the maximum disciplinary sanctions available under its rules.
The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety and teacher conduct within educational institutions. It has also renewed calls for stronger monitoring systems and swift action against any staff member found to have abused their position of trust.
GES has assured the public that it will continue to cooperate with the police to ensure that the matter is properly investigated and that justice is served.
